Located on a site of archaeological significance, within a sensitive planning context, Hurd Rolland’s contemporary, award-winning design for new corporate headquarters provides a modern interpretation of its historic setting.
The composition, in fine-grained magnesium limestone with green slate, pitched roofs and roof terraces, overlooks the city and is sited adjacent to Lendal Bridge on the banks of the River Ouse, opposite the 13th-century Guild Hall. Its 160,000 sq ft of open-plan office space, on four levels, accommodates some 800 staff. Two full-height atria one containing three glass wall climber lifts, the other a landscaped area for informal meetings permit natural daylight to flood into the building, while executive accommodation, positioned on the top floor, offers views across the city to York Minster.
