This is an award-winning conversion of a 19th century former net factory on the shores of the Firth of Forth. The original cast-iron structure was retained and carefully restored, and natural top-lighting was introduced, to create a spacious open living space surrounded by bedroom and bathroom accommodation.
Existing south-facing brick gables were replaced by large, sliding glass doors, giving access onto a recessed terrace and providing expansive views across the Firth. Contemporary stainless steel and aluminium fittings were introduced which contrast with the Victorian brick and cast-iron fabric to revitalise this listed building as a vibrant and exciting new home.
The project received a Commendation at the Scottish Design Awards, and from the Saltire Society.
